Zhenjiang

In Jiangsu Province and with a total population of 390,000, the city Zhenjiang is situated at the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
Zhenjiang has a long-standing history and culture as well as rich tourism resources. Many legendary and historical stories related to the landscape in Zhenjiang have added mysterious luster to this ancient city. Here the rivers and mountains are most gorgeous, with numerous scenic spots and historical sites as well as rich collections of cultural relics. It is noted for its picturesque and magnificent scenery. The hilly scenery in Zhenjiang's southern suburb is considered beautiful enough to be the theme of many landscapes by Chinese painters and won the fame of "City Mountain Forest".

The three mountains of Jin, Jiao and Beigu on both sides of the Yangtze River are especially well known, and they were once reputed as "the Foremost Landscape under Heaven". The most famous scenic spot is Jinshan Temple which was built against the Jin Mountain and related with the classic Chinese legend "The Anecdote of the White Snake". Another legendary temple, the Ganlu Temple, was erected on the Beigu Mountain and the place where the emperor Liu Bei's matrimonial ceremony took place in the Three Kingdoms Period. Jiao Mountain, covered with greenery, is like a piece of floating jade in the middle of the Yangtze River. It is famous for the thousand-year-old Dinghui Temple and more than 400 stone tablets from the past dynasties. Besides these mountains, Mount Maoshan and Mount Baohuashan is the place of origin of the Chinese Taoism and a Holy Land of Buddhism respectively.
