Province. The town was called Xinpin in ancient
times. Pottery was produced here as early as the
Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.). The town became
the center for porcelain-making during the Jingde
Reign (1004-1007 A.D.) of the Northern Song Dynasty.
Porcelain produced in that period carried these
words, "Made in the Jingde Region,"
hence the present name Jingdezhen. Over the centuries
Jingdezhen porcelain has developed a unique style
which has made it world famous. It is white as
jade, clear as a mirror, thin as paper, and resounds
