1. Tour Itinerary
Our guide will
meet you from your hotel in the
morning. Have river cruise on
Grand Canal, then visit a Silk
Factory. After lunch, visit Panmen
City Gate and Liuyuan Garden.
Transfer to your hotel, end of
Grand Canal in China is generally
regarded as the oldest and longest
man-made canal in the world. It
begins in the north at Beijing
and ends at Hangzhou, traversing
on its way south the four provinces
of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and
Zhejiang. This has earned it the
name of the Jing-Hang Canal. With
a total length of 1,794 kilometers,
the canal links up the five large
rivers of Haihe, Huanghe (the
Yellow River), Huaihe, Changjiang
(the Yangtze River) and Qiantangjiang.
In ancient times, it served as
the main artery of communication
between north and south.
City Gate: Panmen
Gate stands at the southwestern
corner of the ancient city of
Suzhou and can be accessed by
taking Bus No. 7. With a history
of 2,500 years, this city gate
is the most completely preserved
part of the ruins of the ancient
city of Suzhou.
Garden: The garden covers an area of 23,310 square meters; it is celebrated for its artistic way of dealing with the spaces between various kinds of architectural form. Buildings make up one third of the total area of the garden, the hall of which being the most remarkable in Suzhou. In 1997, the garden was recorded by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
