 More
than 400,000 cultural relics are housed
in the Nanjing Museum, arranged by date
from the 11th century BC up to the founding
of the People's Republic in 1949. One of
the most interesting exhibits is a burial
suit made of 2,600 small rectangles of jade
sewn together with silver thread. Discovered
in the city of Xuzhou in 1970, the suit
is thought to be over 1,800 years old. There
is also a large wooden copy of a statue
of a man with all the acupuncture points
marked on his body, the original bronze
version of which dates back to the Warring
States period (475-221BC). Other items include
elaborately embroidered sedan chairs, artifacts
from the Taiping Rebellion and beautiful
bronze, jade and porcelain pieces.
