Temple
of Heaven: An example of China's
ancient architectural art and the architectural
structure for worshipping the heaven.
Covering an area of 2,700,000 square
meters, it is located in the southeastern
part of central Beijing. The temple
of Heaven was built in 1420 AD Ming
Dynasty and then expanded and reconstructed.
It was for emperors of the two dynasties
to worship heaven and pray for rich
harvest. Now, it has been a famous tourist
attraction.
Yonghegong
Lama Temple: Also named Yonghegong
Lamasery, is the largest Tibetan Buddhist
Lama Temple in Beijing. It was built
in 1694 as a mansion by Kangxi - the
second emperor of Qing Dynasty (1636-1911),
for his son Yongzheng who is the third
emperor. Lama Temple is consisted of
by the archway, the Heavenly Guardian
Hall, the Hall of Mahavira, the Hall
of Eternal Blessing, the Hall of Dharma
Wheel and Wanfu Hall with compound halls
in the east and west. The Lhama Temple
is a tranquil spot, except during the
Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) when
it seems all of China's Buddhists throng
its altars to burn bushels of incense
and pray for good fortune.
Hutong:
The old narrow
lanes where common people lived. Beijing
Hutong has a history of more than 700
years, which is passed on from Yuan
Dynasty (1271-1368). It reflects the
real face of Beijing, and each lane
has its own exciting story. So In many
people's minds, Beijing is associated
with hutongs. Beijing is the only city
in China that has them. There used to
be thousands of hutongs, lanes, alleys
and courtyards in Beijing, forming the
residential areas for local people.
When visiting Hutong, you have chance
to visit porcelain factory. Beijing
porcelain is famous, especially cloisonne.
